A110 Molecular Cell Biology and Biochemistry
This module provides an in-depth exploration of the cell at a molecular level.
Students will examine cellular organelles, the complex architecture of proteins, nucleic acids, and other macromolecules, and their roles in key biochemical pathways. The curriculum includes detailed analysis of metabolic processes such as glycolysis, the citric acid cycle, and oxidative phosphorylation, alongside the mechanisms of DNA replication, transcription, and RNA translation. It covers the dynamics of cell signalling, the molecular basis of genetic regulation, and cell cycle control.
The laboratory sessions focus on enzyme kinetics, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and hands-on laboratory skills.
